When children get healthy foods they are good at regulating their food intake itself. But, given the choice between healthy and unhealthy food, they will choose the food with the most sugar and fat. The reason for this may be the mother's milk. It is sweet and rich in fat. The children may have become used to this diet from the time they were breastfed. Or there may be another reason - that we opt for fatty, sweet foods due to the energy they give. Sweets like pancakes are certainly always preferred to nutritious food. A small one will quickly navigate towards sweets! :-)
It is our mission, as adults, to ensure healthy food is prepared to be inviting and tempting, to teach children to choose the most wholesome, sustaining foods possible.
